Did you visit the dentist last year?
If you did, then you make a great choice for your oral health care!
Visiting the dentist is an important step to taking care of your teeth and preventing many common dental issues. However, it’s not something you can only do one time.
To ensure your dental health, you need to visit the dentist regularly.
But how often should you go to the dentist?
This is something that many patients want to know.
Today, we’ll tell you what you need to know about how often to go to the dentist.
We take care of our teeth every day with at-home oral hygiene. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing daily are key oral health preventative measures.
However, at-home oral hygiene is not enough to remove all the plaque and bacteria. It often nestles in hard-to-reach areas that we can’t see or find on our own. Furthermore, many different variables impact dental health including genetics. At home, we cannot always prevent or identify oral health concerns.
The most common dental visits are for teeth cleanings and exams. During your teeth cleaning, the dentist removes plaque and buildup and applies a fluoride treatment to your teeth. This helps prevent common oral health issues and keep your teeth healthy. Furthermore, the dentist examines your teeth to identify any areas of concern. Exams ensure early detection and intervention, which allows you to receive less invasive treatments.
Given the importance of dental visits, how often should you see a dentist?
The answer varies for each unique smile. On average though, you should visit the dentist at least once every six months for a teeth cleaning and exam. If you are at a higher risk for dental health problems, or if you are undergoing more extensive treatment, then you may need to visit more often.
